FUN FACTS 🤓
🟢 First recorded in the Valley in 1885, Red-crowned Amazons are now considered native to the area.
🟢 They are endangered in Mexico due to habitat loss and poaching for the pet trade.
🟢 One of their best-known roosts in the Valley is in the pecan trees of Oliveira Park in Brownsville.
🟢 They use their bill like a hand to help them move around branches.
🟢 They often forage in flocks, and eat mostly the seeds and fruit of tropical plants, and are great seed-spreaders.
🟢 They nest in old woodpecker holes or natural tree cavities.
🟢 They pair up for life.
