A big shout out to the RGV's American Forests team for the amazing work they're doing to help bring back the Valley's native thornforest! Erica from Wild Birds Unlimited recently joined in the "Sow It Begins" event to help sow over 14,000 native seeds. What a great way to celebrate Earth Day! 🥰 🌎 Check out more photos in the original post: https://www.instagram.com/p/DJAJCbkxkoS/ (clickable link in our bio's link tree). Results are in for last week's hummingbird Facebook poll!📊 Thanks to everyone who responded! OVER HALF of you SAID YES, you have noticed some migratory hummingbirds, like Ruby-throated and Black-chinned Hummingbirds, hanging around the RGV all year now. Does this mean you should stop feeding? No! Putting out nectar actually gives hummingbirds the best chance to migrate, because hummers need to build up and maintain a high level of fat to be able to fly long distances. Instead, experts tend to point to factors like widespread use of non-native flowering plants and climate change that could be influencing hummingbird migration. Also, sometimes a hummer that seems like it's overwintering could actually just be a straggler that's late to set off—or even an unusual species that has "drifted" into the area. Check out https://mcallen.wbu.com/bird-of-the-month for more fun facts and feeding tips for the Ruby-throated Hummingbird—our April Bird of the Month! And don't miss our next great NATURE TALKS!
