🌵 Meet the Mexican Organ Pipe Cactus 🌵 Also known as Stenocereus griseus (dagger cactus, pitaya, and pitayo de mayo), this towering cactus can reach up to 9 meters tall and produces stunning white flowers that bloom under the moonlight. Its spiny fruits range from yellow-green to deep purple and are packed with vibrant red flesh—an important food source in its native habitat. 🌙🍓 As part of our celebration of #EarthMonth with smithsonianaffiliates , we’re shining a light on the unique species that thrive in our own backyard—and this majestic cactus is one of them!
